The Sedgefield Stables
and Showgrounds Barn

The barn of the Sedgefield Stables and Showgrounds is all that remains of an 18-acre complex created as part of the prestigious Sedgefield development in the 1920’s. The Sedgefield Country Club offered country homes and recreational opportunities to residents and members, including a Donald Ross-designed golf course, horse riding and boarding facilities, social events and fox hunts.

The large, monitor-roof barn at Sedgefield Stables was built around 1927. The complex became home of the Sedgefield Horse Show in the mid-1930s and was the starting point of the annual Sedgefield Hunt. The barn was in continuous use from 1927 until 2021. Its 1-acre site was split off when the rest of the property was sold for redevelopment in 2022.

The property is just under one acre. The ground floor is about 7,000 square feet under roof.

The barn’s original complex was determined eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places in 1990 for its architectural significance and association with the recreational and social life of Sedgefield residents.
